UCI Underground Cityscapes are a series of 21 images with a chronological span of nearly three years, starting in summer 1997 and finishing in early 2000. All of the drawings use identical formats and materials, but the individual drawings all seem to resonate differently. As the series continues, each cityscape is progressively more condensed with architecture, advertising, infrastructure, and other minutiae. Despite this condensation of artifice, in all of these images, life is rare, if at all present.

During my tenure as an attendant at the University Art Gallery, I was offered some wall space for work in the first undergraduate show of 2001, and I decided to present these 21 sketches as a single piece.
